most bloggers i follow on my rss feed don’t talk about their own health but for me it’s the most exciting thing going on. remember my wisdom teeth that they barbarically stole from me. yeah, i got a few weeks worth of stuff to talk about then. about two weeks ago i noticed this weird rash along my side. It was red and roundish and about the size of a quarter. My first thought was that it looked like ring-worm- but i hadn’t been mud wrestling lately. A few days later i noticed other spots along the same side of my body. What was strangest is that they were actually painful. Not like itchy but sore. For a while i though i had cracked a rib somehow but again, no contact sports lately. Finally by that Friday i was quite uncomfortable and the spots were spreading. I gave in and went to see the doctor. First of all, they schedule me for 9:20. 10 oclock they call my name to weight me and take my temp. then they send me back to the waiting room. 10 minutes later they put me in a room. The doctor lady person wasn’t long after that. i showed her the spots and she took a step back. “Do they hurt?” yeah.. “is it a stabbing pain? Tingling kind of prickly?” um.. now that i think of it.. yeah it is a stabbing pain.. and it does tingle like a foot fallen asleep. “Have you ever had chicken pox?” um.. when i was like 6 or 7.

So come to find out.. I have Shingles. Interesting thing about shingles, it’s the Chicken Pox redux. When you get the ckicken pox… and it clears up, the virus that causes it, varicella, goes dormant. Usually when your really old and have a weekend immune system, the virus wakes up again but comes back as shingles. So i got these huge 1000mg pills and Patti got me some lotion that really helps. a week later it’s cleared up quite a bit. After looking at the websites i’m pretty sure i got off easy.

Shingles itself isn’t contagious. You can’t catch shingles from someone who has shingles, BUT.. if you haven’t had chickenpox you can get it from someone with shingles (since it’s the same virus)

So enough about that-

Apple released it’s much rumored iPad today. As much as i used to hate the concept of Apple, i’ve really come full circle now. I carry my macbook around just as much as i carry my dell laptop. I’ve found my iPhone extremely useful and productive. It’s just so small.. It’s good size for a phone but when i’m using it to VNC or RDP it’s a little hard. And watching a movie on a 3 inch screen takes something away from the cinematic experience. Now with the iPad, all that is a thing of the past. *JOHN’S PREDICTIONS* I could really see one of these in everyone’s home, especially at the starting price of $499.

i got home, after an extraordinary long day. We are getting rid of two older storage sheds to make room for a new larger one at the station. So… we spent much of the morning throwing stuff out into a roll-away dumpster. Sometime later that afternoon i was throwing away some old computer and decided to chuck on in their as far as i could. it made it about half way in and even shattered the window i’d been triying to break all morning. (that was already thrown in the dumpster) Shortly after that my shoulder was letting me know that it didn’t appericate the treatment i had given it. Spent the rest of the afternoon taking care of things i’d been putting off here and then. I got a habbit of leaving stuff in my mail’s inbox until it’s done or needs to be seen again soon. otherwise it get’s filed away. nothing ever get thrown away. as of this moment i only have 1 item in my inbox from today.
So anyway… after a long day i get home, the house is empty or appears to be. i got to turn off the tv’s left on, the lights left on.. lift ozzie on my shoulder and sit in the rocking chair. in the quiet, peaceful house. it was so nice to come home to that. the peace probably didn’t last 10 minutes at most but it was 10 minutes well spent. i think i’m going to take something for this shoulder and get to bed early. tomorrow we get to clean out the storage units at the self-storage place.

we’re driving around one day and patti pointed out this new babershop close by the house. I wonder if that was a hint? The summer is usually my shaggy season. probably remincinte of my cornerstone days. something about showing up looking like one of the lost members of the beatles. So anyway, this morning had to go by melfarts, pick up some stuff for VBS, go by church, install this stuff, come home get changed back to church, do a wedding at 3, then a party at 5, then pratice at 6.. somewhere in between their i thought, i kind of do need a hair cut. so i stoped by the place. I haven’t been to a babershop in a while. Something about the old vinal chairs, the smell of warm shaving cream and barb-i-cide. Some old man named Veno who could tame that mop in 3 minutes flat.. not a single electric razor. and if he did have one. it was one of those old one that had a metalic relay starting off the entire thing. SNAP! it would go when turned on.

So i walk in this place totally expecting that. Something must have changed since the last time i went to a barbershop. I thought i had walked into a snazzy hotel. This place had a hostess, who presented me with a menu of haircuts to chose from. After filling out a card with my “order” i was then offered a complimentry drink from the bar. “No thanks, just had lunch” I then go over to the waiting area and looking over the reading material some guy offers me a shoeshine. “um.. no thanks”. There was only two barber so it was a little wait but didn’t seam to long. The barbers wasn’t some old man named vito, but i had an older lady named dora.

All in all.. it was a good haircut. i think i may actaully go back (more than twice a year)

I woke up the other day with horrible chest pains. not really sure what was up but it was a pain i had never felt before. i couldn’t find any position that would alleviate the pain. The night before i had to go back out to the convention center to get them setup, again. So all night i was thinking of ways to fix there problems and wanted to go to work to get them done but with this pain, i couldn’t even drive. Patti convinced me to go see the dr so i went and they did an EKG and chest x-ray and some blood work. all of a sudden i started wondering if what i was feeling was something more than just sleeping in the wrong position. they sent me home with some med’s and i took them and crashed out. woke up to the dr’s call saying that they got the blood results and there wasn’t anything wrong. Phew. Thanksgiving day was nice. Randy’s Patti came over, Guy, Lori and her family. The food was SO GOOD. And i didn’t over eat. The cable went out for a while including the Internet so we were left sitting here twiddling our thumbs wondering.. now what? Patti was asleep so hannah and i just piddled around waiting to be connected to the rest of the world. Later that night another call from the basketball arena. They can’t connect. So hannah and i went back out there. Sure enough, the system wasn’t answering. I took out my trusty box that Patti got me and connected a butt set and got not dial tone. went straight to the termination and still no dialtone. ok.. so the problem wasn’t with our stuff. so now i’m looking for the guys from the arena. Bud or Robert, took about 10 minute to find someone but they finally came and found that both lines had been unpatched. so we had to re-patched from the floor all the way to the demark room. even removed part of the court floor to check for problems. fortunately, my box had my fox and hound, so i was able to put a tone on the floor jack at the press table, and then to the first patch room, and then to the demark room. hannah was big help getting my tools lugged around and tracking back the problems. got dialtone, and the game got on the air.

So all in all there was alot to be thankful for. My health, my wife, our new family, the beautiful weather, all our family together for dinner, i even got to carve the turkey.
